Dr Knight was recognised in the Outstanding Contribution category for his work in developing and refining the cardiac service at BMI The London Independent Hospital over the past 13 years. Dr Knight, is also Clinical Director of Cardiovascular Services at Barts Health NHS Trust, one of the largest cardiovascular departments in the UK.

Since he began practising at BMI The London Independent Hospital back in 2000, Dr Knight has introduced CT Coronary Angiograms, Cardiac MRI and EP Ablation and helped develop a rapid access chest pain service, delivering immediate walk in care for patients. Also, as the Cardiac Lead at BMI The London Independent Hospital Dr Knight helped the hospital become one of the first private hospitals in the UK to implement transcatheter aortic valve implantation. This treatment is for high-risk patients with severe aortic stenosis, and the DNA diagnostic tool Spartan RX, which can be used to help identify and tailor treatment around patients who are resistant to the blood thinning drug clopidogrel. Dr Knight is also one of the principal UK authorities on septal ablation; a treatment used to treat patients with obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, and performs the procedure more frequently than any other UK cardiologist.

Speaking on his award nomination Dr Knight commented: “It is a great honour to be recognised for my work at BMI The London Independent Hospital. I work alongside a fantastic team of highly dedicated and motivated cardiac nurses and with some of the UK’s top cardiologists. As Cardiac Lead I am constantly looking at what new services we can bring to the hospital in order to help improve the care and treatment available to our patients. This has truly been a team effort and I’d like to thank all my colleagues and the staff at BMI The London Independent Hospital for their support. The main focus is always on our patients and this award recognises the excellent clinical outcomes and dedication to patient care we have achieved in the past 13 years.”
