Prof Anthony Mathur

Prof Anthony Mathur trained at Cambridge University and University College London. He is a Consultant Cardiologist and Director of Cardiology at Barts health NHS Trust which is one of the largest centres for treating heart disease patients in the UK. Prof Mathur specialises in interventional cardiology and the treatment of heart attacks and also runs an extensive research programme to develop new treatments for patients with heart disease.

Several of these programs have international recognition and include an adult stem cell research programme (to repair damaged hearts) and a novel stent development programme (to develop the blockages that cause heart attacks). This research has established Prof Mathurs’ reputation in the international community (he sits on several international advisory groups) and he is one of the few specialists performing research in combination with high-volume angioplasty. This combination of interests places Prof Mathur at the forefront of the latest developments for treating patients with heart disease.

Prof Mathur sees all general cardiology patients and specialises in the treatment of chest pain, diagnostic angiography as well as percutaneous coronary intervention (including “complex” cases).
